About The Society

RONDEBOSCH ISLAMIC SOCIETY was established in 2021 by the community with the aims and objective to establish an Islamic Education Centre in the area. One of the objectives is the acquisition of immovable property in Rondebosch or surrounding areas in Cape Town on which to erect a Masjid and such further buildings for the provision of

prayer facilities and/or formal Islamic education classes;
formal Islamic educational classes and conduct an educare centre;
To initiate and participate in projects relating to Islamic education, welfare, charity and the upliftment of the general community particularly relating to the aged, poor and infirm
such other activities of the organisation shall be in conformity with the Quran and the Sunnah.

The Objectives

In pursuance of the provision of religious services to the Islamic community,

the objectives of the Organisation shall further include:

to enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil;
to promote, protect and preserve the Sunnah;
to promote, protect and preserve the religious rights of Muslims;
to promote the religious, social, spiritual and educational advancement of
to further in the interests of the Muslim community and to coordinate Muslim activities in the area;
to manage, supervise, control and operate funerals of any deceased Muslim
to found, build, maintain and own Islamic centres, libraries, Masjid, madrasahs and Imaam and Muathin quarters and other similar institutions for the benefit of Muslims; and
to maintain the Masjid and the property on which it is situated for the performance of the obligatory daily prayers by Muslims and for such other religious purposes applicable to Islam and as the Board may from time to time decide.

Is there a need or requirement in the community for a Masjid & Madrassah?

Indeed. A survey conducted in 2022 revealed a significant need for a Learning Centre and Masjid within the community. Currently, there is no such institution within the perimeter bounded by Campground Road, the M5, Keurboom Road, and Klipfontein Road. Outside this perimeter, the nearest masjids are located on Stegman Road, Imam Haron Road, Queens Road in Mowbray, Athlone Street, and Rondebosch East.
